Paul Jones Wolfe Jr., 80, famed local radio and television personality, died peacefully at his home of natural causes on April 14th, 2021.
Mr. Wolfe began his radio career at the age of 17 in 1957. He was one of the original WBBQ “Good Guys,” hosting the Paul Wolfe Pepsi Party on Saturday evenings and also the Paul Wolfe Morning Show on WBBQ in its heyday in the 1960’s. In addition, he hosted shows on Augusta radio stations WRDW, WBIA, as well as WFOX in Gainesville, Ga., WCON in Cornelia, Ga., and a brief stint on radio in Washington, Ga. He was founding co-owner of Eatonton Broadcasting Company and WXPQ radio in Eatonton, Ga.
Mr. Wolfe later began a lengthy career as programming director, weatherman and then news anchor at WJCL TV, ABC Channel 22 in Savannah, Ga. From 1970 until 1976. He then returned to his hometown of Augusta, Ga. In 1976 to be Director of Creative Services and on air personality for WRDW TV CBS, Channel 12.
He was an avid antique collector and historian as well as a notable dealer and personality in the Augusta antiques and collectibles community.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul J. Wolfe Sr. and Pearl S. Wolfe and a sister, Patricia Wolfe Newman. He is survived by a son, David P. Wolfe (Sarah Beth Vogt), a daughter, Kimberly Birnbrich (Hans) and grandchildren, Savannah Tice, Jessica Tice, Gavin Birnbrich, Presleigh Tice, Zeke Wolfe, Jaxson Birnbrich and Fender Wolfe, his former wife and forever friend, Susan Jackson Wolfe (Russell), and his very close and dear friend, Justin Higdon and his beloved dog, Cotton.
