
Nellie A Tatum,105, passed peacefully from this life, at her home at St. John Towers, after a brief illness, on May 5, 2022. She was born on March 28, 1917 in Prattville, AL to Robert M. Alexander and Stella C. Alexander. She was a twin and next to youngest of five children. Nellie married Adger Robert (Bob) Tatum in 1941 and they later settled in Augusta where they reared their two sons, Dr. Charles P. Tatum, Sr. and David S. Tatum Sr. She was a strong Christian who taught her boys to love the Lord. She was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church where she taught the adult Sunday School Class. Nellie worked in Hospital Personnel at the Fort Gordon Hospital for over 20 years before retiring to spend more time with her grandchildren. She did volunteer work for the Augusta Genealogy Society. She enjoyed years of Bible study through Bible Study Fellowship. She loved to read and was an avid bridge player. Nellie was a loving, caring person who would do anything to help others. Nellie is survived by her son David S. Tatum Sr. (Sandra)and Gail King (Spencer), whom she loved like a daughter, five grandchildren: David S. Tatum Jr. (Lisa), Paul A. Tatum (Melissa), Andrew L. Tatum (Piper), Charles P. Tatum Jr. (Kathy) and Tracy Tatum Rippon (Mark). She is also survived by 10 great grandchildren, 2 great, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Nellie was affectionately known to her family as “T” and also “Ladybug”. A memorial service will be held at Ascension Lutheran Church at a later date. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to all of Nellie’s caregivers, on the 2nd Floor (The Plaza), at St. John Towers and to Trinity Hospice. A memorial service will be held Saturday 11am May 21,2022 @ Ascension Lutheran Church 2860 Wells Dr. Augusta , GA . 30906 , a luncheon and a time of fellowship will be held immediately following the service.
