John Wheeler Humphrey, Jr. entered into rest on Monday, January 29, 2018, at his home.
John was born in Columbia, South Carolina, on May 27, 1960, and spent most of his life in Augusta, living for short times in Atlanta and Morehead City, NC. He is survived by two daughters; Kelly H. Gnann, her husband Matt and daughter Cora, and Katie Michelle Humphrey and her fiancé Dalton Cooper. He was excitedly awaiting his drive to Atlanta to visit his second grandchild due this week.
John was the son of Camilla P. Humphrey and the late John W. Humphrey, Sr. He is also survived by his brother, Phil Humphrey of North Augusta, South Carolina; an uncle, Robert A. Philson and Madeline of Columbia; along with many cousins.
Armed with an Associated Degree in Printing and Graphics and having owned Martinez Printing Company, John was well known in the Augusta printing community. Having his print shop located directly across from the Martinez Post Office, he was affectionately called the “Mayor of Martinez” by his friends. He loved playing and watching baseball and golf, loved his friends of a lifetime, but the prides of his life were his two daughters. His last few years were spent battling diabetes and cancer.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 3, 2018, at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3131 Walton Way at 10AM, followed by a Memorial Service at 11AM, presided over by the Revs. Stu Ritter and Karla Conditt-Daniels. In lieu of flowers, a charity of your choice would appreciate a remembrance.
